Agenda:

  • Review goals for the Finance Committee
  • Develop committee communication strategy
  • Schedule meeting dates and meeting location
  • Outline follow-up action items for next meeting

Discussion, Decisions, Assignments:

First agenda item.  We reviewed the goals for the Finance Committee listed in the agenda which included developing our committee communication strategy, meeting dates and specifically:

“For December 1st, develop summary of startup funding possibilities; develop three scenarios on self sustaining business models for RHIO NOVA that map to the discussions that the Patient Committee is having on Year 2 and 3 scenarios.  Include consideration of business models for patients, hospitals, doctors, payors, etc.”

The next joint plenary session for all committees is Friday, December 1st.  We also reviewed the “Summary of Summit Breakout Sessions” power point handout and discussed the specific slide reference to the Finance Committee.

      “For Start-up Funding:

·        Sustainability is crucial

·        Startup grants

·        Long term sustainability

o       Money from payers – Reduction of duplicate services

o       Need to incentivize adopters/users

·        Payors & vendors (look at NJ RHIO RFI)”

~ Colleen Rooney will locate this RFI and distribute to the group for review

Second agenda item.  Communication strategy will be in person meetings and email correspondence.  If need be, conference calls will be added to our schedule.

·        Is everyone on the committee familiar with using Yahoo Groups?  If all committee members accept the invitation to join the NOVA RHIO Finance Committee Yahoo Group, then one email address is available to use to communicate to all 11 members.  It is up to the individual to decide how often you want to receive email from the Yahoo Group (receive an email each time one is sent, daily digest of emails, weekly digest, etc.).  In addition, all correspondence sent to the email address is posted on the Yahoo Groups page and any document can be uploaded or website posted for all to review.  This can be especially useful if we have large documents to share.  Documents can be uploaded to the Yahoo Groups page and then send an email to the email address below with a note stating the document has been uploaded.  All Yahoo Group members will receive it.  The Yahoo Group page offers our committee a repository of all correspondence and documents we want to share with each other.

·        The email address for our Yahoo Group is NOVARHIO_financecommittee@yahoogroups.com.  An invitation to join the Yahoo Groups page has been sent to all members of our committee.  Please sign up as soon as possible so the email address is effective and everyone receives copies of communications sent out.  The initial meeting minutes, committee member list and the list of reports and websites are posted on the Yahoo Groups page.

Third agenda item.  We scheduled the following meeting schedule from 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. every other week:

·        Friday, Oct. 20

·        Friday, Nov. 3

·        Friday, Nov. 17

·        If needed, we may add Friday, Nov 10 to the schedule

We discussed a potential meeting location as follows:

·        The committee can meet at a TBD meeting room at George Mason University or Chris Green offered a meeting room at Arlington County Government offices.

·        If we continue meeting at GMU, there is no phone line and participation via conference call is not an option.  If we meet at Arlington County offices, we will have a conference line available.  Frank Noone and Colleen offered use of 800# conference lines.

·        All committee members need to weigh in and let the group know your meeting location preference or let us know if another meeting location is an option.  If a GMU meeting location is preferred, Colleen will schedule a meeting room with Janet Palmisano

Fourth agenda item.  We discussed follow-up actions for the next meeting on Oct 20:

  • We need all committee members to do some research and come prepared with specific ideas as to startup funding possibilities and thoughts as to a sustainable business model for the October 20 meeting.

Additional items.  The group suggested that if we come across published reports or websites that could be helpful for us to review, we will communicate them to the committee members.  Committee members suggested we review the HIT Dashboard on HIMSS website, the Utah RHIO model and the AHIMA workbook on how to start a RHIO.  These and other reports and information can be found at:
