Working together towards a Northern
Virginia regional health information organization…
In a little less than a year, significant progress has been
made in our march toward a Northern Virginia Regional Health Information
Organization. At our March 1 Plenary Session, we formally announced
the members of our Charter Board, headed by Dr. William Hazel.

We have the support and active involvement of three major area
hospital systems: Inova, Washington Hospital Center and the Hospital
Corporation of America. And we continue to reach out to care providers,
corporations, health communities and consumers throughout the
region.
Most importantly, our dedicated volunteer committee members
have invested an inspiring amount of time and effort behind
the scenes to create an extremely solid foundation upon which
we will continue to build the NOVA RHIO.
- We are well on our way to incorporating as an official non-profit
organization.
-
In the next month, we will begin our outreach efforts with a
series of regional town forums that will both introduce the
concept of a Northern Virginia Regional Health Information Organization
and take the pulse of community needs and concerns.
-
Our infrastructure committee has completed significant research
into what a NOVA RHIO might look like from a technical perspective,
with emphasis on privacy and security concerns.
-
And we’ve identified potential pilot projects and viable funding
sources.
Much has been accomplished.
We hope you’ll join us at our next Plenary Session, to find
out more about what’s been done and what we still need to do
to make a regional health information organization—and improved
quality of care and life --a reality for Northern Virginia
